VBAC Package
The choice to invest in a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) is a big one. Many people want to take time to be thorough in their preparation. Often there is healing to be done and new labor coping skills are desired. With this in mind, Blissful Births has put together a couple VBAC packages. The following services are what the experienced and educated professionals at Blissful Births recommend as being especially helpful in preparation for VBAC. We offer a VBAC Prep Package as well as full VBAC Package that includes services to support you during the entire length of your journey as you work toward a vaginal birth after cesarean.
VBAC prep classes{included in both packages} Jessica has designed a curriculum specifically tailored for the needs of someone preparing for a vaginal birth after cesarean. This involves help with comfort through pregnancy, refining labor coping skills, birth plan consultation, development of your birth environment, working as a team, integration of a new sibling, and emotional preparation for birth. Even more than other classes, the 5 hours of VBAC prep instruction are tailored to each individual's needs and circumstances.
Reiki{included in both packages} Reiki energy healing is always a powerful tool in preparation for the highly emotional process of labor and birth, but it is especially helpful in moving past previous birth struggles or trauma. It is important that fear, tension, or any negative feelings not taint your future birth. Not only would these restricting emotions bring down your ability to enjoy the experience, but they can actually reduce your chances of accomplishing a vaginal birth. Fear and tension have been shown to cause longer labor, and even completely stall labor. In fact, a lot of residual negative feelings can actually inhibit the start of labor. Reiki is powerful as a preventative because it doesn't just muffle or mask difficult feelings. A Reiki session provides a safe place to focus on those powerful feelings as you spend time with someone understanding and knowledgeable about healing. This focused time is especially helpful when a person is also distracted by an already born child or children. The Reiki portion of the VBAC package consists of 3-5 full sessions. During the first three sessions you will tell your birth story (you may need more sessions if you have many previous births). Most of the time three sessions will suffice, but occasionally more are necessary. The process of reliving this intense experience begins to purge the power and the pain from it, which is important in keeping all that out of the next birth.
Doula Services{only included in full VBAC package} The VBAC ultimate package includes Doula services as well. Having a doula can be very important for someone who is still building their confidence in the birth process. Research has shown that a doula can make a big difference in most of the things that influence the risk of c-section. No one understands the importance of preventing c-section than someone who has already had one! For instance, according to this study, women who are induced are nearly 50% less likely to end up with a c-section when they have a doula. This article summarizes that study that also showed reduced epidural rates, along with unanimous approval by women and their partners. Having given birth before, someone working toward a VBAC knows deeply how important feelings of control over her birth experience are. This study found significant difference in a woman's feel of control, as well as overall satisfaction in hospital birth when a doula was used. Finally, Continuous Support for Women During Childbirth covers most vital statistics surrounding birth, including major differences in c-section when a doula was used.
