Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

As a Birth Doula using Reiki with her clients, Julie has found it very rewarding. It is such a nourishing way to support women through their pregnancy and labor. It has given her more confidence knowing that she has another tool that is successfully helpful in create a positive birthing experience. This loving energy flows gently through Julie to the mother, supporting her not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. Reiki soothes and relaxes, balances the energy field, and supports the body's natural ability to heal itself.

It is non intrusive, non-manipulative, safe, gentle and effective way to promote healing. Reiki compliments other forms of alternative and conventional health care.

Reiki can help release fears and an anxiety in a woman who is unsure of herself and her body as childbirth approaches or who worries about motherhood. Empowering women in their journey to a less painful or even pain free birth by breaking free from the fear-tension-pain cycle. Reiki can also be used to ease postpartum depression and anxiety or heal from a traumatic birth by working with the energetic root of these issues.

It is completely safe from pre-conception to pregnancy to birth, as well as post-natal period. Reiki is a wonderful gift to expectant mothers and their babies. In early pregnancy it can reduce many of the common discomforts such as exhaustion, nausea, and release stress. Throughout pregnancy, Reiki can support the mother's body as she grows and changes, and can give relief to issues such as lower back pain, tension in the neck and shoulders, and insomnia.  Relieved of some of the physical and emotional discomforts of pregnancy, the expectant mother will sleep more soundly, feel more relaxed, and connected with her baby.

During labor, Reiki is effective in easing pain and muscular tension, can help lower blood pressure, aid in relaxation to help move stalled labor, and creating a peaceful atmosphere for which to labor and birth in.

Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit. This creates many beneficial effects that include feelings of peace, security and well being. While Reiki has strong healing benefits, it can also be considered a preventative measure that aids the receiver in achieving and maintaining balance. This is especially helpful when a person is preparing for a major event, change, or accomplishment in their life. Many people have reported miraculous results.

A typical Reiki session is about an hour long. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Many will feel heat emanating from the practitioner's hands, similar to a heating pad. Some commonly feel cold emanating from the hands over a sprain or where there is swelling. Others feel a tingling sensation or notice that pain they had dissipates while receiving Reiki.  The practitioner will place hands on your clothed body in the ways you can see below.
